Watkins Gray International's origins lie in an architectural practice established by William Watkins in Bristol in 1900. As the business grew he opened an office in London and was joined by Stuart Gray. Our presence in the capital was reinforced by the winning of the St George's Teaching Hospital design competition in 1939 which also proved to be the foundation on which the practice has built a reputation in healthcare both domestically and abroad.
The continued growth of the business both in the UK and internationally included the gradual expansion into the seven sectors in which we operate today.
After more than 100 years in existence we have not only built up a depth of knowledge and experience in these sectors but also continued to embrace change in order to face the challenges ahead including economic and political cycles, trends in building procurement, the changing role of the Architect, the environment and technology. An evolutionary process by looking forward and building on the past.
