Great Ormond Street Hospital needed a
state-of-the-art, purpose-built clinical research facility in an
existing sub-basement space. The brief included day-care
accommodation, laboratory and clinical/consultation rooms; the
spaces were to be pleasing and functional for children, families
To create attractive spaces for children we
designed a semi-circular, internal play area to reflect the shape
of a 'healing' tree, a tribute to Peter Pan, as well as a sensory
wall consisting of lights and sound.
The modern and professional feel of the
reception area was to help reassure parents that they are in the
care of the world's foremost centre of excellence for childhood
The facility was shortlisted for the Building Better Healthcare
Best Interior Design Award.
